Looking for a Hot Dog?

If you are in Mount Pleasant, SC where I do most of my work and you have a hankering for a hot dog and taste is your guiding light, then you should give Seppy’s Hotdogs a visit. As far as hot dogs in Mt Pleasant, Seppy’s was right up there at the top.

Seppy’s menu has 17 hot dogs to tantalize your mouth, 13 of which you just aren’t going to get at your local gas station and one more that you can get at a gas station, but is better at Seppy’s. If you are looking for photos Continue reading “Looking for a Hot Dog?”

No Brainer Dinner, Subway Subs + Home Fixins

Subway restaurant in the eveningTonight after work the family and I were trying to settle on a quick dinner. After all was decided and weighed we went for Subway. Now, you might be saying, “Subway? That’s gonna cost for a family of 4.” Normally you’d be right, but consider:

  • ease-of-shopping, just drive down the street, order, carry home, and eat
  • health for the price, if you choose well you’ll do a lot better than Fast Food
  • Subway meals are often just a sub, some chips and a drink
  • we already have drinks and chips at home, so we’re only buying subs
  • instead of home-made subs, especially considering we don’t have sub ingredients at home right now, we save LOTS of shopping time

So the total for a family of 4 is less than what you’d pay at fast food, and we get a decent meal, that can be fairly healthy – especially if you choose your chips and drink with health in mind avoiding high fats, calories and salt.

Appetizers Make Dinner

The other night my husband and I were out and about, looking for an inexpensive place to eat. Normally this would mean the dreaded fast food. Well, not tonight, I just couldn’t handle another greasy burger. About the time I thought there was no other way around it and I would have to suffer through another night of fast food we saw one of our favorite dine-in restaurants. Well, we both were thinking the same thing. Since neither of us was too hungry we decided on just appetizers for dinner.

Oh yeah, it was a great idea, and fun too. We got to choose everything the way we wanted, and it was good. Some of the appetizers were pricey, but if you choose wisely you can have a nice inexpensive, made-your-way-meal. A la cart can be fun if you are careful about what you order. We even decided to sit in the dining room and had a great time in the restaurant at prices above fast food prices, but below the price of a full-blown restaurant meal, and we had a great time that night.

Another idea for a light dinner is to ask your favorite restaraunts if they have a “Happy Hour”. Sometimes they have the best food, at great prices. “Happy Hour” can be fun, although you may need to avoid pricey drink specials.

Happy Hunting.

These apply to couples or at least 2 people eating out…

– split a dinner and get two drinks
– split an appetizer and get two drinks

Save a Lot, Meals for under $5

We’ve recently “discovered” Save-A-Lot, and I can tell you we’re happy about it. Suddenly, we’re basically making more money because our groceries will be costing us much less than before. By the way, “discovered” means that we finally Save-A-Lot logobroke down and instead of going to Bi-Lo or Wal-Mart Super Center we checked out the local Save-A-Lot thinking with our wallets and the excitement at the idea of “getting a raise” by simply shopping smarter to save!

And the savings don’t stop in the store, I found great meal ideas on their website. How would you like free meal ideas for breakfast, lunch and dinner that feed 4 for under $5.00? I also found their Great Recipes for Inexpensive, Quick Meals page and both of these look really promising for helping along our budget, diet (as a lifestyle) and meal planning.
