The Avengers (2012) Movie

What happens when you put Hulk, Iron Man (2008/2010), Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff), Hawkeye, Thor (2011), Loki, Captain America, Agent Phil Coulson, and Nick Fury into a bowl? You get a great movie! I always enjoy a well-formed story and action-packed movie, but The Avengers pulls together several such movies.

The drama between Avengers team members, the Avengers and their opponents and the humor that can be found in and around all of that makes for a fantastic movie! If you liked any of the movies linked above then I think you really will LOVE The Avengers.

Battle: Los Angeles aka World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles

Battle Los Angeles Movie cover
UPDATE May 2016: I just watched Battle Los Angeles again on Amazon Video on our Roku and I have to say its still an awesome movie.

Battle Los Angeles Movie coverBattle: Los Angeles starring Aaron Eckhart, Ramon Rodriguez, Ne-Yo, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan and Michael Peña was a great movie (yes, that’s an official rating from yours, truly). Also called Battle: LA it was sort of like Independence Day 4 meets District 9, and I say that loosely because the movie’s plots aren’t too similar. Of the two, ID4 had a closer plot to Battle: LA.

The combat scenes were pretty intense even though the movie garnered a PG-13 rating, and in the beginning scenes of the movie the mysterious Aliens are not shown. For me, the movie was very good at creating suspense and an air of mystery surrounding the Marine’s enemy and how devastating the Alien attacks and tactics are.

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra Movie

GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra garnered a PG-13 rating for strong action sequences of violence and mayhem throughout. The second movie this year to be ripped out of the hands of its younger audience by Paramount with a PG-13 rating. Understandably, the approach is to the widest audience which includes those who grew up on GI Joe, but the youngins are gonna have to sit this one out.

The Joes and Cobra are treated to a super-upgrade of technology since the last cartoons I saw as a kid. If you can, I would recommend checking out the movie, even if you aren’t a GI Joe Fan since you will also be able to follow the story line and enjoy the hi-tech super-battles that permeate the movie.

Check out the Official GI Joe: Rise of Cobra site.

Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian

Were you googling Smithsonian Institution National Archives? I was after watching Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (Rated PG for mild action and brief language), starring Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Hank Azaria and other wonderful big names. The movie’s rating of PG 13 makes it appropriate for most of the family, and will likely result in more visitors than usual at the Smithsonian Institution this summer.

This funny movie is worth watching and features some amazing stars and American History. Oh, I never found any cool maps of the Smithsonian Institution National Archives, so if you did, please drop a comment below.

Terminator Salvation

It seems I’m in a minority group with those who thought Terminator Salvation was a great BLAST of a movie. There was very little I didn’t like about the movie, and I can’t think of anything I didn’t like about it.

The ever-important John Connor has grown up, Skynet has come to life and executed Judgment day and mankind struggles to survive. Terminator Salvation is set in the future of the first 3 Terminator movies and after we’ve lost the battle to destroy Skynet before it comes to life. As evidenced in the trailer below, everything in the future is not as had previously been known… it seems Skynet has used its travels to the past to gather intelligence.
