Low Gasoline Prices Because of Recession

Posted byGas Prices Low Due To Recession – Expect Higher Prices As We Recover
There is one good thing to come from the recession we are facing, low gasoline prices. Listening to news radio today during a finance segment the commentator/analyst said that gas prices were not going to be permanent and were only low because of the recession. I don’t remember the guy`s name, but he said he read Barron`s magazine, and jokingly that it was so ‘dry’ to read that you could clear a room just by mentioning the magazine name and talking about it.
The San Francisco Chronicle online adds:
…the global economy started spiraling into recession, and recessions lower the amount of oil that countries consume. Speculative investors who had driven oil [and gasoline prices] to record heights this summer had been willing to ignore gloomy economic data so long as it seemed confined to the United States.
What? Gas prices only low because of the recession? Well at least that’s a good thing in the midst of a financial mess, however the flip side of that coin is that as the economy heals we may begin to see higher gas prices as quickly as we saw them drop.
