Personalized Search with Google SearchWiki

Google’s launched SearchWiki, a feature of the regular Google.com web search that lets you organize your search result and make notes on sites found in your search results.
When you are logged in and search Google you may see (see “SearchWiki Bug?” below) icons and links allowing you to move results up or back down to their original position, delete individual results, add new results, make notes about results you see, add new results, view all SearchWiki notes for a particular search that you or anyone else has made.
The Order of Things
Getting used to ordering the results is rather easy to figure out. Perform a search like, for example search the term Saturn Vue. In the results I saw Saturn.com was the second result so I click the up arrow to move that to the top, its now the #1 result for this search – but only in my searchWiki.
Next I go to the Wikipedia result for Saturn Vue and click its up arrow, its now result #2 for this search.
Now let’s say I go to page 2 of results displaying results 21 – 30 and for result #23 I click its up arrow, now it becomes the #3 result (it disappears from the page in this case since result going page 1 of results).
Let’s mix it up some, back on page 1 of search results (displaying results 1- 10) I go to the bottom and click “Add a Result”, enter www.motorcycle.com and click the preview button and am presented with that page’s singular result along with an “Add” button. Click it and this newest addition becomes the new result #4, even though it was totally unrelated.
Now if I go to my result #2 – Wikipedia’s Saturn Vue result – and click its down arrow it will return to its original position, and then #3 and #4 each move up one spot to become the new #2 and #3 results, respectively.
Google has this to say:
Today we’re launching SearchWiki, a way for you to customize search by re-ranking, deleting, adding, and commenting on search results. With just a single click you can move the results you like to the top or add a new site. You can also write notes attached to a particular site and remove results that you don’t feel belong. These modifications will be shown to you every time you do the same search in the future. SearchWiki is available to signed-in Google users. We store your changes in your Google Account. If you are wondering if you are signed in, you can always check by noting if your username appears in the upper right-hand side of the page.
SearchWiki Bug?
I’ve got 2 Google Accounts, one personal and one for work, and my personal account does not show SearchWiki icons at all – just no SearchWiki. My work account does show SearchWiki though. Here, check it out…. may a wrinkle Google has to iron out?
