  1. After clicking on the Basic HTML, the speed recovered. I hope it will not get slow again.

    Thanks for the tip anyway!

  2. I’m about to turn off all of those things, those are exactly why I use Gmail. I like all those options, something is just wrong with Gmail lately, I tried their “help” yeah, wasted time to say the least!

  3. Considering Gmail has launched Google Chrome which has one of the fastest, or the fastest javascript engine. I’m not sure it will help, but Chrome does have that fast javascript engine PLUS the tabs crash separately instead of crashing the browser + all of its tabs.

It may not fit your “style”, but I use Chrome specifically for Gmail and a few other tasks, leaving other browsers for everything else. If anyone tries Chrome, please let us know if it helps or not.

    Download Google Chrome

  4. Thank you so much!

For the past month GMail has been driving both my husband and I nuts. We had to wait several minutes just to scroll down the page of one e-mail. The HTML basic switch seems to have fixed both.

    Thanks again,

  5. I realize all the above comments were posted a while back but as a reply to a previous comment both my husband and I had set up Chrome a while back. As I recall, before our problems even started. We still had major problems opening and viewing e-mails.

  6. Thanks George. Gmail has been horrible for me for some weeks now, and switching to Basic HTML has made it really good again. I think they must have been loading up on browser intensive functionality these last few months and suddenly hit a wall for older machines like mine. I can live without all the fancy stuff for now.
