Microsoft Email Scam

This is the first time I’ve seen this email scam, and my spam filters in one of my email programs missed it.

I did some poking around and couldn’t find anything about this on www.snopes.com, which I use often but I did find an official comment by a Microsoft MVP on this page addressing a very similar scam email:
